Last weekend brought all three teams home for our first TRIPLE HEADER of the season with a back-to-back-to-back bonanza on the Ross Gregory Oval.

And this week the Women have a BYE while the Men’s Teams return to the Ross Gregory Oval to host Yarra Old Grammarians.

The bar will be open!

Review of Round 4 -The Return Home

The WOMEN’S TEAM fronted up in the early game against local foes AJAX in what ended as a tight, low scoring tussle played in early slippery conditions.

Both sides were looking to impress early but the slippery conditions made moving the ball challenging and scoring was limited. Both sides only had one scoring shot each with AJAX registering a goal and Power House just a point in the first quarter.

The second quarter was more of the same with the game being played primarily in the middle of the ground, neither side found a way through and there was no score added during the quarter.

Lara Cartwright on the ball

The third quarter saw much of the same with Power House scoring the only goal of the quarter through gun forward Britt Tancred. The scores were all tied up at the final change.

Grace Curran on the mark

The last quarter was a nail biter as both sides tried to work the ball forward at every opportunity. Both midfields were dominant but it was the visitors who scraped through the only goal of the last quarter to pinch the game by 7 points.

A disappointing loss but a great effort from a committed team. Best for the House were Lisa McCombs and Leanne Carroll while Lara Cartwright was strong across the back half. Carly McDade continued her fine early season form and Dani Clarke and Britt Tancred (1 goal) were good contributors.

THE RESERVES took on Ivanhoe in what became a great close game. Ivanhoe got the jump early in the first quarter and held sway until the first break.

The second term was again tight as both sides pushed numbers forward to score. Despite a concerted team effort, the House found themselves behind at the main break.

Jamie Glynn breaks away

The third quarter was some of the best football we have played all season and was highlighted by Captain/Coach Traolach “T.O” O’Sullivan’s long 60 metre long-bomb goal to lift the team and the crowd!

“T.O” slots it home

The last quarter was tight but Ivanhoe pulled away to record a 5 goal victory.

Best for the House were Jamie Glynn and evergreen star Darra Conlon while John Robinson played well as did “Dangerous” Dan Stuart who kicked a goal in a rare stint up forward. Other goalkickers were Paddy Baxter, Dave Cameron and the elusive Wilson Jones.

THE SENIORS took on Ivanhoe in the main game and after another slow start, found themselves behind the 8-ball early on.  An early shower for Troy Auld and Rob Cumming who both succumbed to injury, left us short on the bench again but the team battled well sharing the honours in the second term to show that our best football is competitive.

Despite a spirited showing in the second term the early gap was too much to make up and we unfortunately fell away late. However, there were many positive signs around our effort and commitment and adjusting to game plans and strategies, so with a continued commitment, the improvement will continue.

Best for the House was Josh Comi through the midfield and up forward where he snagged a goal. Swingman Jeremy Hill played both ends of the ground and finished with two goals while Justin Burch kicked another. Luke Stubbs had plenty of the ball as did Ben Circosta, Jordan Eliezer and Heath Miller while Brendan Wright played his best game for the year.

The Women’s Team have a BYE this week while the Men’s Reserves play at 11.40am and the Men’s Seniors at 2pm both against Yarra Old Grammarians.

Let’s get as many down to the Ross Gregory as possible to support the Men’s teams this weekend and celebrate a couple of victories.
