ROUND 7 REVIEW

THE WOMEN fronted up at the Ross Gregory Oval to take on Oakleigh. A good start with a goal through Kristy Toogood had the team up and about but Oakleigh lifted and gained the ascendancy by the main break.

Battle for the ball
The second half was much improved however the damage had been done early and we couldn’t claw our way back into the game. A tough loss but more encouraging signs to look forward to.

Alana “Westy” Murray looks downfield

Goalkicker Kirsty Toogood comes off for a break

Best for the House was Women’s games record holder (42) Alana Murray, who was playing her last game before heading overseas. Rebecca Foley, Kirsty Toogood and Lisa McCombs played well while Bec Parish and Bhavna Patel were great.

Alana “Westy” Murray is chaired off
THE RESERVES got off to a very slow start against Old Paradians and quickly found themselves down by 5 goals at quarter time. They never really recovered from there although a spirited showing in the third term brought them closer, a more committed Parade outfit closed the game out easily.

Dave Cameron battles in the ruck

Rob Cumming (L) and Jamie Carroll (R) track the ball

Mark O’Driscoll was our clear best player on a wing and kicked a great goal while Brian Letch was dominant with 2 goals with Rich Ogenche, John Robinson and evergreen Daniel Buckley hitting the scoreboard. Ethan Richardson and Rob Cumming were also among the best.

THE SENIORS came out looking impressive in the first quarter as the game started in tight fashion with neither side breaking away. A few missed opportunities and a dubious disallowed goal worked against us, while Parade kicked two late goals to lead by 12 points at 1/4 time.

Brendan Wright, Paddy Baxter and Ben Roberts run out
The second quarter was disappointing as we lost our way again. Some advice from the coach and the second half became a tight battle with a 6 goal to 3 split. We salvaged some pride but fell short again. Plenty of glimpses of improvement in game plan, commitment and effort and the elusive 4 points are not that far away.

Sean Scotland kicks a goal

Senior Coach Jeff Scotland (R) and Reserves Coach Traolach O’Sullivan (L) discuss tactics on the sidelines

Best for the House was Aidan McCartan and Ben Circosta (1 goal) while Luke Stubbs and Heath Miller mopped up everything across the back half. Other goals went to Kevin O’Connell, Oscar Peddle and Sean Scotland.

Overall a much improved effort despite the scoreboard.

The Women take on GLEN EIRA in a must win game, while the Men’s teams take on WEST BRUNSWICK in two challenging games.

See you on the weekend!
