Another big week at the club with three hotly contested games with 1 win and 2 losses the end result of the three teams efforts. Another big week on the track as we front up to the  weekends challenges with the Women taking on Oakleigh AT HOME in a must win game while the Men’s teams take on Old Paradians AWAY in two very winnable games.

ROUND 6 REVIEW

THE WOMEN fronted up nice and early for their game against local rivals Albert Park in what promised to be a very hard fought contest. The early running was all in favour of the visitors who made the most of their forward half entries kicking the first 4 goals and putting intense pressure on our backline. By half time, we were down 5 goals to 1 but playing competitively and still strong at the contest, but not making an impact on the scoreboard.

The second half was much improved however the damage had been done early and we couldn’t claw our way back into the game. A tough loss but more encouraging signs to look forward to.
Best for the House was Grainne Devane who dominated in the backline. Cat Bartholomew returned from illness and continued her fine form in the middle also kicking a goal. Britt Tancred was a strong presence while Anna Jones, Grace Curran and Alana Murray were great contributors through the midfield

THE RESERVES got to Melbourne High School pretty early and were determined to erase the memories of a poor record and recent heavy defeats at the ground. It was a keen and energetic side that took the field jumping away to a 2 goal lead at the first break. The second term was much of the same as the team was hard at the ball and committing numbers to every contest, taking at 22 point lead into the main break.

The third term saw some wayward kicking which let MHSOB back into the contest and we took a 14 lead into the final term. We managed to keep the opposition scoreless and eventually ran away with a 23 point victory in grand style. It was the clubs first win at the ground in 20 years.

Perennial superstar Darra Conlon continued his stellar season across half back while onballer John Robinson was instrumental in the clinches. Mark O’Driscoll booted 2 goals (in only his second game) while first gamer Stephen Boland kicked 2 goals. Key Power Forward “Danger” Dan Stuart also got on the scoresheet. Adriel Long and Paddy Baxter were prominent.

THE SENIORS came out after last week’s improved yet disappointing performance looking to find a way to curtail the MHSOB juggernaut. Despite another slow start, the boys were very competitive chasing and harassing and keeping the opposition in check for large periods of the first half. A couple of late lapses saw MHSOB pile on some goals in quick succession but the boys were hanging tough in an otherwise even contest around the ground.

Trav Scotland battles for the ball while Sean Scotland supports
The second half was another improved effort but some late “junk time” goals to the opposition flattered the scoreline.

Troy Auld gets his kick away
Best for the House was Jordan Eliezer (1 goal) who continues to build into a fine season. Brett Scotland was great in and under the packs while Trav Scotland  was strong.
Swingman Jeremy Hill booted another 3 goals while  James Ditchfield played a strong debut in defence drifting forward to kick a goal in his first game. Big forwards Dermott Lindley and Dave Cameron booted a goal each.

Overall a much improved effort despite the scoreboard.

THIS WEEK the the Women take on Oakleigh AT HOME in a must win game while the Men’s teams take on Old Paradians AWAY in two very winnable games.

See you on the weekend!
