Round Five last week was a bit of a mixed bag with a severely undermanned Men’s Seniors and Reserves teams (combined 27 players unavailable!) having a tough day while the Women’s team saluted with their first win of the season with a big victory.
The highlight of the week was the debut of Angus Dakin pulling on the boots for Power House for the first time. Angus is the son of Life Member Ric Dakin and grandson of Life Member and Legend Ian Dakin and great-nephew of Life Member and Legend Peter Dakin. Great to continue the fine Dakin tradition at Power House.

This week it will be great for all three teams to be playing at triple header AT HOME against South Melbourne Districts (Women) and Manningham (Men).
It was great again last week to see plenty of support at all 3 games with Legend Peter Dakin at the early game to support the women’s team and watch the victory.
At the Men’s game, 72 game former key forward Dave Phelan (1992-1998) was at the early game waving the flags and doing his bit to support the club. His old mate and power forward Life Member Bruce Wilson waved the flags for the senior game. Great to see two old teammates catching up and sharing stories about how many handballs they didn’t dish out!
Life Member Mick Verberne blew the whistle again and Archie Edwards ran the boundary. Plenty of support for the Men’s games as usual and we look forward to having plenty more this week at our triple header.
The Women travelled out to Bennettswood Oval in Burwood to take on Emmaus St Leo’s in a big game. In the early sunshine, the House jumped out to an early lead after a couple of Britt Tancred strong marks and goals. A 21 point lead at the first change turned into a 42 point lead at the main break as the House played some of their best football for the season.
The opposition lifted early in the second half contesting strongly but were unable to hit the scoreboard and the House settled and kicked away again winning comfortably 10.9.69 to 4 points.
Best for the team were Alana Murray in her club record 30th game while Grace Curran and Anna Jones were dominant. Theresa McCafferty, Lauren Jones and Bronagh McKenna were also strong in a great overall team effort.
Britt Tancred dominated the goal square booting 3 goals and Alana Murray kicked two goals including her first goals for the club. Bronagh McKenna, Theresa McCafferty and Anna Jones all kicked one while Zara Lipscombe took a strong mark and booted her first ever goal for Power House.

The Reserves although very undermanned, were keen and determined in the first quarter but fell behind by quarter time. By the half, the game was as good as done despite hard efforts from the majority of players. The game petered out to a big loss but the boys fought valiantly to hold their heads up despite the loss.
Best for the House were ever reliable versatile swingman Sean Marshall who also kicked 2 goals. Steve O’Riordan (2 goals) and first gamer Cormac Diamond (1 goal) did very well while John Robinson enjoyed a great game in his return and John Barrett was in everything.
Daniel Buckley also booted a goal which was his 100th goal for the club.
The Seniors took a very understrength side into their game against the undefeated, ladder leading Glen Eira. The mood of the players was still positive but the boys were jumped by a very impressive opposition. It was the same story for the next three quarters as Glen Eira took the 4 points comfortably.
Brendan Wright continued his great form in the ruck while Oli Gravelle returned from injury to play a great game across the back half. Jeremy Hill (1 goal) was used at both ends effectively while the returning Tal Sardone and Connor Beadman fought valiantly. Ben Circosta and Brett Scotland also hit the scoreboard.
