Hello all,

It’s been a while since my last update and hopefully you have all been entertained by the amount of activity and postings coming from the club including, “Teammate Tuesday”, “Flashback Friday” and the controversial and popular “Best Team” segment featuring some past champions telling it like only they remember it!

Amidst all of this, the club and committee have been working diligently with organisations such as Parks Victoria, our sponsors, various government bodies and the VAFA to work through a challenging time not just for our club but for our whole community.

This week, the VAFA,supported by AFL Victoria advised VAFA clubs that from Monday 1 June 2020, all clubs would be allowed to return to restricted training albeit under strict guidelines as follows:-

  • No access to changerooms
  • Small Group training limited up to 10
    • This does not include coach
    • 2 x groups of 10 can utilise the oval – staying completely apart
    • Oval split into 2 zones
  • Strictly no contact drills
  • No marking contests
  • Frequent hand sanitising
  • Footballs allowed but no other equipment
  • Frequent santisation of balls
  • Strict attendance register to be signed each session
  • No trainer available – no massage/strapping
  • No one to enter the oval unless player or coach
  • All players to provide their own water bottle/towel
  • No canteen or bar service
  • Social Distancing rules (1.5 metres apart) to apply
  • No congregation before/after sessions
  • All players encouraged to download the COVID SAFE APP

HELP NEEDED

We require a Club Registered COVID-19 Safety Officer at each training session.

If you are certified and happy to help please email your certificate to me at president@powerhouse-afc.com or help out the club by completing the short COVID-19 infection control training module and sending your certificate through.

I encourage you all to read the FULL Return to small outdoor group training of up to 10 people, the Return to Community Football FAQs and complete the COVID-19 infection control training.

This is certainly fantastic news for our club and the coaches will be reaching out to their respective playing groups over the next few days to prepare the modified training sessions.

AFL Victoria and the VAFA advise that they will continue to work with the State Government to ensure alignment with their advice, and in the event of further easing of restrictions, they hope to be able to allow clubs to return to full training and competition later in the year, with hygiene and safety protocols firmly in place.

Our committee has been working diligently behind the scenes in preparing the path to return to training.

If you require any update or need to speak to anyone regarding the return to training, please reach out to:-

Men’s Coach – Anthony McMahon – 0419 924 738
Women’s Coach – Phil Mackney – 0427 364 447

Great news all round and a positive step towards getting our players on the field again wearing the famous green, black and white and playing the game we all love.

Tear ’em down!
