Review of Round 1
After a long break from football, we had all three teams on the park in Round one. Although we only won one out of three games, there were some terrific positives coming out of all games.
The WOMEN’S TEAM ventured away to play Hampton early Saturday morning and were jumped in the first quarter after a slow start. After that, the last three quarters became a hard and tense physical battle with Lisa McCombs dominating in the ruck and up forward with 3 goals in a best on ground performance.

Courtney Coologhan starred in her first game. She was well supported by Cat Bartholomew, Grace Curran and Lisa Neylon in defence while Nerissa Von Zonneveld was lively, attacking the contest.

Unfortunately they team went down 72 – 21 but there were plenty of positives around structure and game style that were taken away to work on.
The RESERVES travelled out to modern day rivals Bulleen and came away with a strong victory to kick off the season. The boys dominated from the first bounce and kept the foot on the gas all game, coming away with a convincing 106 -12 victory by 94 points.
First gamer Matt Quinn continued in his father’s footsteps at the House booting 5 goals while evergreen power forward Dan Buckley booted 3. Gordon Conochie kicked a couple with singles to Richie Ogenche, John Robinson, Rob Cumming and Sten Wieslander.
100 game superstar Traolach O’Sullivan also kicked a special goal in his milestone game.

Best for the House were Rob Cumming, Sten Wieslander, new recruit Oscar Peddle, and veteran defender Darra Conlon.

The SENIORS took on Bulleen in the main game and started cautiously and slowly. Bulleen played a possession style of game and edged out to a 13 point quarter time lead. After some clear instructions at the first break, the House settled somewhat in the second quarter but still trailed by 23 at the main break.
The half time break allowed the side to regroup and reshape and they came out and played a strong third quarter edging to within 15 points at the final change. Unfortunately, that’s where it ended for the House who slipped away to lose 67 – 33.
Goals were shared for the House with Luke Stubbs, first gamer Scott Sheldrick, John Barrett and Jordan Eliezer each kicking one.

(Luke Stubbs puts a goal on the board)
Best players included Ben Circosta, Travis Scotland and first gamers Josh Comi and Sean Scotland with defenders Jeremy Hill and Joey Halloran strong across the back half.

THIS WEEK, with a few numbers back for the Men’s teams, we travel to Brunswick with plenty of confidence while the Women regroup to take on rivals Glen Eira.
We would love to see plenty of support at Packer Park, Carnegie at 11.40am for the Women’s game v Glen Eira, and at the A.G.Gillon Oval to watch the Men battle it out with Brunswick.
