Last Saturday night the club held its 2017 Vote Count Night.
A boisterous crowd including the complete playing list and coaches attended and reviewed the season and watched the Best and Fairest votes tally round by round.
Over the vote count, the tension built as the rounds were tallied.
Tal and Figs both polled 79 votes to defeat Nick Nagel by 1 vote.
2012 winner Adam Collett finished third with 69 votes while 2016 winner Ben Circosta finished fourth on 68 votes.
In his first year at the club, Tal had an excellent season polling in 11 games playing through the midfield. He led the way for his teammates with his fierce attack on the ball and an uncompromising standard and willingness to put his body on the line. He played a number of different roles through the year either attacking or shutting down when required. A great season and a great future at the club.
In his second year at the club, Fiachra was selected in the VAFA Division 3 Team of the Year at Centre Half Back. His ability to close down his opponent while consistently attacking made him a hard match up for opponents and his long kicking was a feature of his great year.
After finishing 8th in the count last year, Figs was moved to defence and has developed as a fine player and the cornerstone of the defence. He polled in 10 games.
Runner up Nick Nagel had an outstanding year polling votes in 11 out of 14 games including 4 best on ground performances on his way to Team of the Year selection and 70 goals. He was selected in the VAFA Victorian Team and will leave this weekend to tour Ireland..
This is only the third tie for the “Bluey” in the clubs history.
Les Gordon and Peter Hutchinson tied in 1962 while Fred Stafford and Glyn Evans tied in 1978.
To cap off a great season, Steve Circosta polled 69 votes to defeat Phil Mackney by 12 votes.
Dom Fogarty finished third while Patrick Arnold finished in 4th place.
Steve polled in 8 out of 9 games for the season and managed to play 5 senior games. His form was excellent and he is a deserving winner. Steve has always put the club ahead of his own interests and is the consummate clubman. A great competitor on the field, he leaves everything out on the park each time he pulls on the green, black and white. This is a great reward for a great season
