Power House 6.4-40 defeated by UHS-VU

Goal Kickers: R Webb 2, A Collett, T Saraw, J Gatti, S Devine
Best Players: R. Damkjaer, R. Webb, D. Baker, A. Collett, M. Webb, M. Conomy

We travelled out to the Zoo to play UHS-VU in what would be a big test. The boys were missing a couple of  key players but welcomed Ryan Damkjaer and Daniel Royce for their first senior games for the club.

The first quarter was evenly balanced with the sides trading early goals and the home side slipped 13 points clear at the first break.

The second quarter proved a struggle early as a few late goals allowed UHS-VU to sit 26 points clear at the main break. A late incident saw Michael “Junior” Webb sitting on the pine cooling his heels for an umpire enforced break.

The second half provided more of the same as the Power House boys struggled to find a way through the UHS-VU half back line. Adam Collett was everywhere in the middle while Darren Baker was picking up key possessions in the midfield and across half back.

The side inexplicably fell away in the final quarter conceding 9 goals to one and eventually finishing 92 points in arrears.

Ryan Damkjaer was our best as he fought all day while livewire Ricky Webb was productive with 2 goals. Baker and Collett continued their stellar 2012 form while Mark Conomy and Michael Webb were also among the best.

We dust ourselves off and regroup to face Swinburne this weekend in a crucial game

Power House 3.1-19 defeated by UHS-VU 21.9-135

Goal Kickers: P. O’Grady , B. Gair , E. Edwards
Best Players: A. Mercuri, B. Cox, J. Docker, J. Brennan, D. Buckley, P. Arnold

The excitement around this game had been built at selection on Thursday night when Power Forward Daniel Buckley and key Swingman Patrick Arnold were both suprisingly named in the team.

A few late changes unsettled the side but we took the field with some excitement and anticipation.

That excitement was evident in the first quarter as we played some solid football and were within striking distance at the first break.

The next two quarters were dreadful as we managed only one solitary point and allowed the opposition nine goals.

The last quarter saw us kick a couple of goals while UHS-VU booted another 8.

Overall a disappointing effort against a pretty handy team.

Highlights included Power Forward Daniel Buckley leaping “Buddy Franklin style” over spreadeagled opposition players as he sprinted (like Usain Bolt) towards goal.

Swingman and key matchwinner Patrick Arnold was sacrificed from the forward line to play down back where hewas required to quell the opposition key forwards.

Ben “Call me Geary” Gair gave up his boundary duties to pull on the boots and managed to get on the scoresheet.

Johnny “China” Brennan was his usual angry self while Jono “Freo” Docker was amongst the best.

Rich Tolliday and Charlie “Chuck” Reid both debuted for the club while Anthony “Smoking Joe” Mercuri was our best.

Broken ribs to Mike “Precision” Flindt was bad news to finish the day.

Next week is another game and maybe the time has come for the coach to call in our secret weapon Rod “Rocket” Marshall to boost the side
