The less said about this game the better. An unimpressive display by the boys against a pretty strong and well drilled Kew outfit.

The Power House 2’s boys knew it would be a tough match against Kew at their home having been flogged there in consecutive seasons, but  Steve ‘Feathers’ Webb had the boys up and about for the crucial game. Kew were fast out of the blocks and piled on 3 goals in 3 minutes, Daniel ‘Back to Power Forward’ Buckley put through the first for PHAFC after winning a free kick and not long after that Traolach ‘Twinkle Toes’ O’Sullivan put through another major. At the first break the boys went in 24 points down.

It was a tough 2nd quarter with only 2 behinds scored for PHAFC as Kew kicked 3 goals. Grant ‘Power House Flyer’ Murphy was everywhere and getting some quality touches in the midfield, Gerry ‘I drink the bar profits’ Cleary was also putting in a solid effort in his ruck duties sharing the role with Duncan ‘Dreamboat’ Eastey, Kew had a man mountain of a ruckman so whinged as hard as he hit… so the boys had their work cut out for them!

At the long break we were 48 points down, deciding not to retreat to our luxurious portable change rooms we decided to stay out on the ground for a chat. When play resumed it was out international brigade that stood up, Bryan ‘Rolls Royce’ Kyne racked up possessions at will, Marty ‘Belgian Deep Fryer’ Piron took some great marks and looked lively and Mike ‘Plums’ Flindt showed great courage taking some strong marks… it was a ballsy effort!

Unfortunately Kew really put the foot down and slammed on 7 goals to 1 in the 3rdNathan ‘The Fist’ Moresi was our only contributor to the scoreboard slotting through a sausage roll from about 30 metres out.

At the final change PHAFC were 89 points down and staring down the barrel of another large defeat, it was another costly game for us with Jimmy ‘Atomic Wedgy’ Dwyer and Johnnie ‘The Mailman’ O’Doherty leaving the game early, Johnnie unfortunately suffered a nasty finger injury and was carted off to hospital!

It was all Kew in the last quarter as they piled on another 7 goals to no score. Euan ‘Freight Train’ Edwards was running well off half back and nearly put a Kew guy in hospital with a solid shirtfront, Chris ‘Swingman’ Barrett was playing out of his skin in defence marking everything and Joe ‘Bojangles’ Cunsolo was being his usual nuggetty self.

In the end it was a heavy 134 point loss. The PHAFC played some good footy at stages, but Kew showed why they are top of the ladder with a 600% percentage! So we go off to lick our wounds and get ready for a crucial game against Old Westbourne at home. As per Ant’s email we want ALL available 2’s players at training this week and every session going forward! Finals are still a chance so let’s get around the club as we push for a solid run home!
