The Seniors started this game well kicking 3 goals in the first quarter all compliments of Edwards. Burnside, back in his traditional role, was playing well. The second quarter was poor, allowing Kew to score 5 majors while we were held goaless. The big half time rev up from the Coach worked wonders seeing us lift our intensity and efforts outscoring the opposition 3 goals to 2. At the final break, the players were asked for another lift in effort and work rate and kicked away to a 16 point victory. A great way to celebrate Senior Captain Darren Bakers 50th game.
Edwards kicked 5 while Burnside was back to his best. Selby, Spiliotalopoulos and Kuhanez were good again while Leske found plenty of the ball.

The short journey to Kew proved deceptive for a number of the Power House Reserves as the 10:30 players meeting fell well short of the quorum of 22. The coach was visibly disappointed but instead of berating his troops he simply outlined his expectations which are more than reasonable for a successful side. This set the tone for the first quarter as the boys were eager to make amends for any off field laziness. Big Russ captained the side and was certainly leading by example in the centre of the ground. The tackling from the House was both ferocious and infectious as the 4 boys dropped down from the Seniors showed that they had every intention of getting back in the Senior side for next weeks game. Bowds, Nevett (x 2) and Walshy were giving nothing away easily.
Unfortunately the ruthless nature of the sides attack waned in the second quarter and Kew were allowed back into the game as they kicked 3 unanswered goals. Brian “Goodsey” Kyne was showing great form in his second game back for the club before falling victim to a knee ligament injury midway through the second term. At halftime there was no need for words as players knew they had taken their foot off the gas.
The boys regained some composure in the third and again stamped their authority on the game. Michael and Rob Somers were battling hard and clocking up the possessions around midfield. Bucks was also showing some great form up front, taking a screamer of a mark and backing it up with one of his three majors for the day. At three quarter time the scoreboard looked good from a Power House perspetive.
Unfortunatly Kew were kicking to the scoring end for the final term and managed to claw their way back into the game. With only minutes left on the clock they snuck into the lead. The Power House boys battled hard and dominated possession for the final few minutes but the major score required did not materialise. The boys left the ground dejected but will jump at the opportunity to turn that feeling around next week as the top side come to visit Ross Gregory Oval.
