Injuries coupled with unavailability took its toll on the seniors list this week with over seven players sidelined due to various ailments and commitments.  This presented an opportunity for a number of players to step up from the reserves and there was no doubting that Jados, Ash (playing his first senior game for powerhouse) and Paddy were going to seize the opportunity of playing at the top level.  Conditions couldnt be better for footy with no wind and a decent sod to play on.

The ground was more of a circle than an oval and this meant there was gonna be plenty of room to move the footy down the wings. The house started the game with a level of intensity not displyed so far this year.  Nathan was setting the tone at the back crashing into opponents and letting them know there was gonna be no soft marks to be taken by the forwards.  Even though the sides were pretty even throughout the quarter it was La Trobe that did the damage on the scoreboard and notched up a few oppurtunist goals which gave them a nice lead going into quarter time.

Dave Burnside and co dominated the middle for most of the day and with Warde putting in an age defying display nobody would have suspected he is approaching his 50th (year not game!). Powerhouse cut into the homesides lead in the second quarter with Eddo doing what he does best even when marked by two to three players.  At half time there was a lot of optimism and excitment as the house were on top of their opponents but were still lacking the scores on the board.

In the third quarter the slushies serial pest was unleashed on the oppositions playmaker and before long the number 12 was making his way to the pine.  The biggest surprise of the day was that Lynchy didnt actually go and sit beside his latest victim. The house again narrowed the gap in this quarter with Simon blacksell finishing off the quarter with a hard earned goal.

The house were on alert going into the final term but unfortunatly as happened the week before it was the opposition that got the early goals to effectively kill off the game.  That said though the slushies never threw in the towel and there are a lot of positives to be taken into the next couple of rounds of footy.  If the intensity level can be maintained along with the commitment shown so far this year the boys have a good road ahead.
