Power House Football Club is delighted to announce 4 time AFL Premiership player Martin Pike as Senior Coach for Season 2010.
Martin’s playing history began when he was drafted by Melbourne at pick 9 in the 1992 AFL National Draft. He won Fitzroy’s Best and Fairest in their final year in 1996 before landing at North Melbourne where he played in the 1999 Premiership Team under Denis Pagan.
He was then approached by Brisbane Coach Leigh Matthews and made the move to Brisbane and was an integral part of their 3 Premierships in 2001-2003 and played 97 of a possible 101 games over 4 years.
Martin also represented South Australia in State of Origin in 1998.
Martin played 247 AFL Games including 27 Finals matches in his 13 year professional playing career.
Martin has spent the last few years in the coaching arena achieving his AFL Level 3 Accreditation. He has coached Hastings in the Mornington Peninsula Football League and spent 2009 as the Senior Assistant and Reserve Coach for the Northern Bullants in the VFL working with former Carlton Best and Fairest David Teague
He is best known for his hardness at the football and his durability as a footballer.
Martin has played under some of the great AFL coaches including Leigh Matthews, Denis Pagan, Neil Craig, Bernie Quinlan and Neil Balme. He has played alongside some of the games greatest players including Wayne Carey, Glenn Archer, and Jonathan Brown and Brownlow Medalists, Michael Voss, Simon Black and Jason Akermanis.
His
experience, knowledge understanding and passion for the game will be a
great addition to Power House in 2010. His leadership and ability to
bring out the best in those around him will be a great benefit to the
playing group.
Martin has a firm belief in a strong team
ethic of fitness, work and support. His hard uncompromising playing
style reflects what his expectations as a coach.
