PHFC FRIENDSHIPS ENDURE AT LORD SOMERS CAMP "OLDIES" CAMP.

Click here to check out some pictures from the 2010 Oldies Camp and read on for a bit of history on our great club

Power House Football Club was formed in 1940, played a few games and ceased due to World War Two. It reformed in 1947 with John Pilbeam as President, Wal Davie as Secretary and Orm Smith as Captain . Orm was a distinguished soldier and the Slushie King at Lord Somers Camp. The Photo of the 1947 Team is behind the Bar in the club rooms.

The Club has it origins in Lord Somers Camp. Lord Somers Camp was started in 1929 by Lord Somers, Governor of Victoria with the purpose of bringing together young men from different walks of life. He was assisted by Dr Cecil McAdam, and a number of notable Melbourne business men.
The 81st Lord Somers Big Camp was held at Somers in January. Lady Somers Camp was formed in 1986 , has been very successful and this year celebrated their 25th Big Camp. Many life long friendships are formed at Camp. About 270 people attend Big Camp, consisting of 100 Groupers, in 5 Groups of 20, with a Group Leader and assistant.

The Camp is headed by The Camp Chief ( Currently Prof. Glenn Bowes) and some 170 volunteer staff. The staff are in various departments, such as Slushies, Games Staff, Cooks, Media etc. During the year various Community Camps are held, such as for Very Special Kids, these are staffed by our volunteer members.

Tristan Patrilakis is Leader of The VSK Camp . Steve Devine, Lachie Dowling, Ollie Morris, Simon Blacksell, are involved at these Camps.

A very successful Camp is our OLDIES Camp, which has been held for the last 10 years in March. The instigator was Geoff Swan (1936 Camp) now 89 -- Geoff had a few games with us in 1940. Then served with the army in the Pacific and was Commander of the Royal Melbourne Regiment.

Our recent Camp for 3 days with 70 blokes between 60 & 89, most being former members of Sporting Clubs-- Rugby, Aths, Rowing, Basketball.  We had 22 past players or officials from the Footy Club. Hutchy was Camp Leader and we had a great time with Good Food, Good Fun & Good Fellowship.

For those of you now playing for Power House you have joined a great Club with great traditions, friendly and embracing.

Best wishes to you all for a very successful year both on and off the field.
