Seniors and Reserves advance to Prelimenary Finals |
|
WA Scammell Reserve proved to be a happy hunting ground for the Powerhouse seniors and reserves as both sides advanced to the prelimenary finals which take place next Sunday at the same venue. The seniors were always in control of an Albert Park side which they had already accounted for twice in the home and away season. With Eddo deployed at fullback the house defence stood tall all day and the Albert Park boys could only manange 5 majors for the day and 2 of those were in the final term when the game was over as a contest. The midfield brigade also dominated their opponents with Dave Burnside dominant in the ruck and ably assisted by Tanj and Bakes. Up front Tails was causing all sorts of problems for the albert park defence and is hitting form at the crucial stage of the season.
Next Sunday the seniors take on St Johns and will have nothing to fear as they were unlucky to lose the last time the sides met by a single goal.
The reserves dished up another nailbiter, testing those with a faint heart and thrilling those who showed up to support. It was the students who got off to a better start but it didnt take the house long to settle and they were soon on level terms and had taken the lead by the end of the first quarter. The boys never relinquished this lead thanks to a high level of intensity that kept their opponents on the back foot all day long. The big bodies in defence gave little away all day and played some clever footy to work the ball out of their danger zone. Big Ash did some stellar work around the middle making some bone crunching tackels that im sure had the students thinking twice about picking up the footy. Again the Parso and Washo combination was working well up front with the combining for 3 of the sides goals.
Next Sunday the boys will face Yarra Valley who finished top of the table in the home and away season. This is a great opportunity for the reserves to make it two grand finals in a row and two tight games already under the belt will certainly help their cause.

Seniors fall short but get second bite at the cherry |
|
It will be another Footy fuelled weekend for the powerhouse faithful as the Seniors and Reserves go into battle on Saturday. The seniors will go into Saturdays game boosted by the fact that they have had the upperhand on Albert Park in the home and away season. Im sure they will be looking for some retribution after the defeat to La Trobe on Saturday. The slushies equalled their opponents in three out of the four quarters but unfotunately a poor performance in the second quarter saw the students put too much daylight between the sides. A good week on the track should have the boys up and about come 2pm next Saturday.
The Ressies ensured that those at Scammell Reserve got their moneys worth, providing 14 minutes of nailbiting footy in their extra time win over West Brunswick. Trailing by 11 points at half time and being outplayed in many parts of the field the boys had to dig deep and showed great character to grind their opponents down and book their place in next Saturday's elimination final at the same venue. The house defence stood tall when it mattered most and at the other end of the ground it was the Parso and Washo show that inflicted the scoreboard damage. Next Saturday the house do battle against La Trobe in what will no doubt be another ferocious battle.
It was again great to see so much support out for both teams over the weekend, looking forward to seeing the familiar faces and Jimmy Halls legs again this weekend!!! |
