Round 18 - 2011 - Power House vs Hawthorn

Seniors

POWER HOUSE  8.20-68 lost to Hawthorn 15.3-93

Goal Kickers: P. Edwards 2, J. Avery , L. Johnston , D. Baker , G. Tubridy , B. Leske , N. Brown
Best Players: B. Leske, N. Brown, D. Burnside, S. O'Leary, G. Tubridy, D. Hourn

In what can only be described as an extremely disappointing result for the Senior team, we went down by 21 points in a dour battle with old rivals Hawthorn.

Watched on by a big crowd of travelling House supporters, we started well on the small and boggy Rathmines Oval but our poor conversion cost us dearly. Tubridy in particular had a horror start mssing a couple of sitters while Hawthorn only went forward 3 times for 3 goals. Our poor kicking left us leading by only 4 points at the first break.

The second term saw more of the same as the poor ball use by the House, kept the Hawks well in the game.

The Hawks were more structured going forward while the House wasted many opportunities to establish a strong lead with Edwards missing a couple of shots he would normally finish.

We led by 8 points at half time.

The third quarter was a battle of wills as both sides refused to break The game lifted to a frenetic physical contest with no room to move and no tackle rewarded.

The Hawks broke away to a 12 point lead with 4 quick goals and it looked all over.

But Power House fought back through sheer determination and wrested back control going into the final break leading by 9 points in a low scoring scrappy and intense affair.

And it was there that the fight ended for season 2011 as the Power House team fell away dramatically in the last quarter to concede 7 straight goals and lose by 21 points.

We finished with 8 goals 20 behinds

Edwards left the ground wth 2 majors (and 7 behinds) and won the League Goalkicking Award with 77 for the season.

Leske was again at his brilliant best playing at both ends of the ground with great effect. Big Burnside played one of his best games for the season while Nick Brown continued to stake his claims for the Bluey Truscott Trophy with another dogged game.

Dave Hourn in his first game at senior level showed enough passion and determination and attack on the ball to sufggest that he may well find himself playing much more Senior football in 2012.

In a stroke of luck, our rivals also lost, which means we barely escape relegation.

We remain in Division 3 for Season 2012 but we need to put in a great amount of hard work and soul searching to redeem ourselves form the disappointment of season 2011.

Martin Pike announced his resignation as Senior Coach immediately after the match.

Reserves

POWER HOUSE 11.16-82 drew with HAWTHORN 11.16-82

Goal Kickers: D. Buckley 3, W. Elliott 2, B. Lonsdale 2, P. Arnold , S. Devine , J. Walsh , P. Nevett
Best Players: S. Devine, S. Davidson, J. Walsh, T. Selby, J. White, W. Elliott

In the final match in the career of  Warde "Almost Football Legend" Elliot, the result could not have been scripted much better.

Playing against bitter rivals Hawthorn and their reserves "umpire" was a great challenge having to negotiate the opposition and the strange decisions from the man in white.

Not more than a handful of points seperated the teams all day as both teams fought hard to edge in front.

In the end, a draw was the result although a couple of officials couldn't decide who scored what?!

For the House, big Steve Devine was a tower of Power dominating all comers with his athleticism.

Stuey Davidson dominated his defensve flank and attacked hard while Joey Cunsolo was the best running defender on the ground continually surging forward in search of outlet targets with his pinpoint accuracy.

James Wash showed the senior selectors why he is such a valuable player dominating all over the ground in another great performance.

Whitey was tenacious and Selby was just hard at it again while the midfield maestro Warde "The Tank" Elliott proved his worth again wth some bone crunching tackles and key last quarter goals to almost steal the game for the House.

Up forward, Power Forward Daniel Buckley was again the dominant forward on the ground booting 3 goals without ever leaving the goalsquare.

He dispensed of at least 3 opponents during a terrorising afternoon for Hawthorn defenders

He proved to be the difference as he was the only player not to get his jumper dirty!

Ben "Ned Kelly" Lonsdale booted 2 goals and can now shave off that embarassing beard!

Veteran Swingman and Utility Patrick Arnold was again prominent directing traffic all day while getting on the scoreboard.

Pete Nevett put down his camera and put in another solid performance.

The Plazzer Brothers worked hard again with Jeremy's performance equally as dominating as his brother Chris.

Gerry Cleary got down and dirty in the bog heap and Brendan "Local" Counsel played his last game for the House before his impending move to WA.

Neil Todd and John Dixon waxed for kicks while Mick Somers showed again why he has always been amongst the best.

Duncan Eastey was playing like a man possesed across half back talking trash (usually to his team mates) and generally causing havoc.

Olly Morris continued his great recent form while Shanksy returned to the team and looked a million bucks...while Rocket Marshall didn't belt anyone

We will hopefully have Jimmy Dwyer back after his horiffic hand injury (did you REALLY do that playing football...or was it something more sinister???)

Onwards and upwards for 2012 with a new coach and new enthusisam for the game and the club.

Round 17 - 2011 - Power House vs UHS-VU

POWER HOUSE 6.13-49 lost to UHS-VU 11.11-77

Goal Kickers: P. Edwards 4, T. Hinck , L. Johnston
Best Players: B. Leske, L. Johnston, N. Moresi, D. Baker, P. Edwards, G. Tubridy

In another disappointing game, this one was "the one the got away".

With the game being close all day and while we were in the mix at 3/4 time but we fell away dramatically (again) to eventually lose a very winnable game by 28 points.

Edwards dominated the goalsquare yet again with another 4 goals while newby Lee Johnston proved he was worth his spot at centre half forward with his strong hands and hard leading.

Baker played a fantastic last quarter while Leske again dominated. Moresi was hard and tough and Tubridy was elusive.

Unfortunately, this has been the story of our season with us working hard to get to winning positions but being unable to close out games.

Next week we play in a do or die battle for relegation.

POWER HOUSE 7.7-49 lost to UHS-VU 13.13-91

Goal Kickers: M. Wallis 3, M. Devine , S. McAlpine , J. Dixon , M. Somers
Best Players: S. Davidson, B. Counsel, M. Wallis, O. Morris, T. Monte, D. Eastey

A great game and a great time was had by all as every Power House player dominated his opponent and rocked his position with precision play, sublime skills and unbelieveable teamwork.

Little Wally booted 3 while Stuey Davidson and Ben "The Peoples Beard" Lonsdale were unbelievable!

Eastey, White, Morris, Devine, Counsel, McAlpine, Dixon, Somers, Plazzer, Marshall, Plazzer, Selby, Buckley, Todd, Hourn, Cunsolo, Cleary, Somers, Devine, Wallis, Lonsdale and Davidson were all amongst the best.

Can't believe we lost!

Round 16 - 2011 - Power House vs Albert Park

Seniors

POWER HOUSE 11.18-84 lost to ALBERT PARK 18.14-122

Goal Kickers: P. Edwards 5, D. Baker 2, C. Phillips , B. Counsel , N. Brown , G. Norris
Best Players: D. Burnside, P. Edwards, D. Baker, C. Phillips, L. Nevett, J. Whelan

This game was a must win for both teams as they lined up for The "Lakeside Cup".

Albert Park started the better side kicking away to a handy early lead with a 5 goals to 1 first stanza.

The honors were still with the Falcons as they went into the main break with a well deserved 5 goal lead.

Edwards was still causing headaches for the opposition despite a heavy knock to the head while Burnside was toiling away.

In the third quarter, the boys came out to play and served up a 7 goals to 4 goalfest.

Power House was suddenly back in the game as the lead had been reduced to 10 points at the final break.

With an exciting finish on the cards, the anticipation and expectation during the team huddles was intense.

However, the final quarter fizzled out as Albert Park reasserted themselves and wrested back control in a disappointing result for the boys.

Best for the House were Baker, Burnside, Jake Whelan, Lachie Nevett and Clint Phillips while Edwards dominated again with 5 goals.

Reserves

POWER HOUSE 18.14-122 defeated ALBERT PARK 10.8-68

Goal Kickers: P. Arnold 5, M. Wallis 3, L. Johnston 3, J. Fiorini 2, J. Plazzer 2, J. White 2, W. Elliott
Best Players: N. Moresi, L. Johnston, O. Morris, D. Buckley, P. Arnold, W. Elliott

The Reserves came out firing in the local derby with the team keen to make a statement against the local oppositon.

The first quarter set the standard for the game with 7 goals kicked and a dominant performance around the ground.

The second and third quarters were evenly balanced but Power House blew Albert Park away with a massive last quarter kicking 5 goals to nil.

Veteran Utility Patrick Arnold dominated all day ending with 5 goals and a reminder to the senior selectors that he is far from a spent force.

Boxing superstar Matt Wallis used his exciting pace and silky skills to register 3 goals in his second game back from a high profile boxing career!

Key forward Lee "The Dominator" Johnston held off all challengers and finished with 3 goals of his own while bringing the small players around him into the game.

High flying pacy small forward Jeremy Plazzer put in his third excellent game in a row totally dominating his flank.

Nathan "The Fist" Moresi was his usual dominant self while Olly Morris proved a handful for the opposition.

However, the key to winning the game was the sterling performace of Power Forward Daniel "Don't call me Nathan" Buckley who showed his selfless side becoming provider for his teammates and leading the "assists".

Buckley's no nonsense approach with team lifting tackles, selfless acts of courage and teamwork singlehandedly lifted his team to victory.

In front of a massive home crowd who were celebrating the all conquering 1971 Premiership Team, the Seniors were inspired to a hard fought victory to honour their past heroes.

In a see sawing game, Power House led early then allowed Kew to fight back into the contest to be evenly poised at half time.

The third quarter turned into a struggle as the House pressed forward repeatedly but was denied by a determined Kew.

With the game on the line, Pike urged his players to lift one more time and close the game out. The boys responded with a last quarter effort that kept the opposition goalless while kicking 5 majors and sealing a39 point victory.

Nick Brown was devastatiung again as he continued to put his head over the ball while Leske, Burnside and Chylinski were all good.

Edwards kicked another 6 while Spiliotacopoulos did some damage with 3 of his own.

The team song was sung by a big crowd in the rooms after the game.

Best Players: D Buckley, J. Plazzer, P. Arnold, D. Hourn, J. Cunsolo, M. Wallis

For three quarters this match was close and in the balance. However with a string of key injuries, we simply ran out of players and fell away dramatically in the last quarter.

Veteran decoy forward Jeff Scotland was dominating the front half while resident super star and Gun Power Forward Daniel Buckley controlled the tempo with his gut busting leads and crunching pack marks.

Jeremy Plazzer and Neil Todd played spirited games and caused plenty of angst for the opposition

Key playmaker Hayden Rattray left a big hole in the side when he went off with an injury. Lightweight boxing champion Matt Wallis made his long awaited return putting in a solid performance

Goal Kickers: P. Edwards 5, C. Phillips 3, G. Norris
Best Players: N. Brown, C. Phillips, D. Baker, D. Burnside, B. Leske, P. Edwards

A poor day by the House who started brightly with Edwards in form in front of the big sticks. As the game wore on, the opposition pulled away with some better ball use and finishing.

Saraw injured his knee and will miss the rest of the season

Edwards and Phillips were among the goals while Brown continued his great form and Baker and Leske were great for the House.

Goal Kickers: D. Buckley 2, A. Foster
Best Players: N. Moresi, T. Monte, M. Treeby, S. Davidson, B. Lonsdale, M. Devine

In the absence of decoy forward Jeff Scotland, the Reserves had to rely heavily on Power Forward Daniel Buckley for their avenue to goal.

Moresi dominated as did Tim "Python" Monty.

Otherwise a disappointing day with the team severely depleted by injuries and unavailabilities

A close game against a tough opposition. We led very well early and held a handy quarter time break however a fightback from Ivanhoe had the game in the balance at the half.

Edwards was on fire as was Phillips. We lost Spiliotacopoulos to a knockout in the third term and had Whelan off with a broken nose.

The game went down to the wire as we conceded two last minute goals to lose by 4 points.

Burnside, Baker and Nick Brown were the best for the House
